Look how long it can take for common items to disintegrate in the landfill!
Banana peel, 2-10 days
Paper, 2-5 months
Cigarette filter, 3-12 years
Plastic bags, 10-20 years
Diapers, 10-20 years
Plastic bottles, 70-200 years
Eeek! That is a whole lotta junk filling up our landfills. Jon and I recycle everything possible: paper, plastics, aluminum, glass...even electronics! We barely have enough garbage to take out each week. Check out curbside or drop-off recycling options in your neighborhood!

I thought diapers didn't disintigrate for 100+ years. I also read that one baby produces a half ton of dirty diapers each year...and THAT I can believe.
I've been recycling since we lived in Alaska and we're still doing it here in Washington. It's fun to sort out things. Good for the environment and for the next generation. Take care and be happy.
