With the election over, I can turn my attention to more pressing issues, such as getting a new tire for my car. For some reason, just as I am about to go on vacation, the Universe thinks I need to spend more money on unplanned car repairs, and ensures I don’t have too much disposable income.
Jon and I arrived at our voting location just before 7 a.m. and lined up behind those who were already waiting. It took a bit for poll workers to get everything organized, but considering they were likely volunteers who didn’t run voting stations every day, I went with the flow and got in and out in just under an hour. It was time to get to work.
I was cruising along, thinking I would arrive on time, when a strange sensation, followed by an even stranger noise, overcame my car. Yes, on the interstate. Sigh. I quickly pulled over as much as possible on the busy freeway, and tried to ignore the fact that huge trucks pulling trailers were driving dangerously close going at least 70 MPH.
I’ve had a flat tire before - who hasn't? - but this was an interesting experience. As I was waiting for roadside assistance, a lot of people offered to help, including a kindly neighbor driving by, but the two people who stopped weren’t as well-intentioned as their predecessors…
I do not willingly stop on the side of the interstate; people have been killed doing that. So if I am ever lost, I stop at a gas station like everybody else! Well, evidently two separate drivers saw my plight and thought, You know what? I bet she knows where Rivergate Parkway is! I was very happy to help, but still found it strange.
After getting the “donut” tire on my car, I headed to school and then to work. At the end of the day, thoughts of my evening class were on my mind…until I noticed that my DONUT TIRE WAS ALSO FLAT. Ok. Game over. I give. I drove on the rim to the gas station, filled the tire with air, and went home lest anything heavy fall on my head (meteor, piano, etc).
I’m anticipating that Wednesday will run more smoothly.

having a flat tire on a highway is very scary...the last flat tire I had was about 1 am on the Glenn Hwy...20 below zero...you, James and Tara in the car...you were about 6 months old...I was hoping I could change the tire before anyone stopped..but when I couldnt' get the lugnuts off I prayed for help..a hero did stop..an off duty police officer...my hero
